Threads is a growing social media app that is the counterpart to Instagram. If you’ve been out of the loop, Threads is Meta’s answer to X (formerly Twitter,) focusing on text-based microblogging. The platform has been steadily rising in members since its introduction in 2023, with Forbes declaring it the fastest-growing social media that year. If you’re trying to grow your business, Threads may be a good place for you.

Before we list some tips, it’s important to understand what makes Threads unique. This will help you take full advantage of everything the platform offers.

Text Updates

Being similar to X, Threads focuses mainly on text-based posting. On Threads, you can create texts with a character limit of up to 500. Meanwhile, X has a character limit of 280 if you’re not paying for Premium. So, Thread still focuses on brevity but does give you some wiggle room if you want to expand on your thoughts.

A Following Feed

This is a dedicated feed where you can follow the people you want to follow. As a brand, you can follow only potential customers and similar businesses if you want to keep your feed and algorithm tailored toward growing your presence.

Entirely Focused Conversations

With Threads, you can customize who you reply to, filter out content you don’t want, and even hide certain words. Don’t want to hear about the election? Do you want to remove any potentially inappropriate content? It’s so easy to control what you see and what you do on this platform.

Import from Instagram

It can be such a hassle to make a new social media profile. You need to build up a following, add a profile pic, fill out a bio, and much more. But since Threads is an app that requires an Instagram account, it’s simple for you to import everything. For example, when you create a Threads account, you can choose to follow people from Instagram who have Threads. You can also import your profile pic, bio, and other information from Instagram. Of course, if you want your Threads to be its own thing, you can do that too.

If you’ve already set up an Instagram for Business account, it’s easy to download the Threads app and grow there. This post will look at how you can increase your account and get the most Threads comments, likes, and followers.

Ten Tips to Grow Your Business on Threads

1. Visuals are Vital

You may think that since Threads focuses on text, you should forego visuals. But just like X, visual content can set you apart from others. Think of it this way. Instagram is mainly visual-focused, with a good caption being the cherry on top. Meanwhile, Threads is text-focused, but a good image can accentuate that text.

You don’t need an image for every post, but upload one every so often. When you can illustrate what you’re saying with a photo, video, or GIF, people will notice.

2. Be Conversational with Your Posts

While Instagram has a comment section where you can reply to others’ comments, it’s a little messy. Meanwhile, Threads’ purpose is to make conversations much easier to manage. You don’t need to spend all day having conversations (and don’t waste your time arguing on the Internet), but talking with your fans and potential audience can be fruitful.

For example, if your business specializes in PC repair, you may ask, “What is the strangest computer glitch you experienced?” People can give their experiences, and you may discuss why these bugs happened and how to fix them.

Being conversational shows that you are interested in what people have to say. As a result, they will follow you or retain fans. Threads is a platform where just leaving a “Like” isn’t enough.

3. Repost, Repost, Repost

Like X, Threads makes it simple to repost any content that interests you onto your feed. As a business, you should repost often. Here are some things to repost:

  • News, memes, infographics, or other content relevant to your niche.
  • Repost a previous post you have made to put it back on top of people’s feeds. For example, you may repost something you posted in the morning in the evening so that people active at different times of the day can see it.
  • User-generated content. If someone tags you and is using your product, repost them. It shows that you care about your customers and can give that person a good feeling.

That said, your wall should be filled with mostly original posts. The exact formula for posts to reposts is unknown, but a good rule of thumb is around 3:1. Of course, you can mix it up and find the right radio for you.

4. Become Best Friends with Tags and Hashtags

Now, let’s talk about tags and hashtags. Like Instagram and most social media platforms, Threads uses hashtags, and the same rules apply. Since Threads has character limits, and to avoid spamming, you don’t want many hashtags. Ideally, you should have a couple of niche-focused hashtags, two broader ones, and a branded hashtag. That said, the hashtag rules are not set in stone, and you’re free to experiment a little.

But another way you can grow on threads is to tag brands and influencers relevant to your niche. When people search for those users, they are likely to see your posts. That said, don’t tag an influencer too much, or it can come across as desperate and annoying.

5. Take Advantage of New and Emerging Features

Threads is a relatively new platform, especially compared to its big sister app, Instagram. As a result, new features will be added constantly. It’s important to be on the lookout for any new features and take advantage of them while you can. Early adopters may get an algorithmic boost.

That’s why it’s important to follow Threads’s official page, which is simply @threads. Here, you can get the latest updates and also learn some tips and tricks.

6. Keep it in the Drafts

Threads recently introduced the ability to keep up to 100 drafts of posts you can make. This feature is one that you can use as a sort of drawing board. If you have ideas for content, put them here. If you know you want to make a specific post, you may keep different versions of said post in the drafts and then decide which is better.

While Threads is an app that emphasizes expressing what’s on your mind, you still need to be calculated. Think of the best ways to get your point across, and you’ll land more followers. You don’t need to draft a post like it’s a novel, but having several versions can help a lot.

7. Look to Your Insights

Threads for Business has also recently added Insights. Like most social media, Insights lets you see how many impressions you’ve received, how many views your posts have, and more.

Insights can tell you which posts are working great and which aren’t. You can also determine what days give you the most engagements. You should check your insights at least once a week, as they can change frequently.

8. Schedule Posts So You Don’t Forget

Another feature Threads introduced is scheduling. This feature is found on many social media platforms, allowing businesses to upload content to be posted later rather than immediately. Scheduling posts, let’s map out this week’s content. You can also upload content at times when you usually may be busy or even asleep.

9. Post Content Exclusive to Threads

One thing you have to remember about Threads is that it requires users to have an Instagram already. Therefore, if you’re repurposing the content you’ve posted on Instagram, you’re probably not going to go that far. Sure, someone who didn’t catch your post on Instagram may catch it on Threads, but most people are going to get a double-dosage. And they may start to unfollow if the content feels repetitive.

Therefore, it’s essential to keep your content exclusive. Because Threads is text-based, the content you post may be more about discussions, polls, or simply posting behind-the-scenes content you can’t find anywhere else.

That said, you can still repurpose some content from other platforms. For instance, if you have an X account, remember that many people made Threads profiles because they dislike Elon Musk’s decisions with the platform or dislike how toxic X can be. If you have some content on X, you may repurpose it for Threads.

10. Follow Standard Social Media Growth Rules

At the end of the day, Threads is not much different than other social media. While it has several unique features, it has an algorithm that rewards people who play by the rules.

Have a niche, post frequently, and make content that is interesting, engaging, and informative. Have a profile picture that stands out and an optimized bio. When you do this, your audience will grow and be interested in everything you have to say. Meanwhile, if your content is boring or inconsistent, people will unfollow you or mute your posts.

Also, collaborate with other brands and influencers and look at the competition to see how they’re doing things. Collaboration can bring in new, like-minded audience members. And do we need to explain why you should look at your competition? If you do this, you will grow on Threads!

Conclusion

It is possible to grow your brand on Threads if you post frequently and create unique, engaging content. Because Threads is new, they’re constantly adding new features to their Instagram for Business. Remember, Threads is Instagram’s younger sibling, and you can’t have one without the other!

With that said, remember that Threads is a little more unique than X and similar platforms. Be sure to have your own voice for the platform. However, you can repost some content from Instagram. Good luck!

What makes Threads different from other social media platforms?

Threads focuses on text-based microblogging while seamlessly integrating with Instagram. It’s designed for engaging conversations, niche discussions, and personalization, making it ideal for businesses looking to connect authentically with their audience.

Businesses can grow by posting consistently, using hashtags strategically, engaging in conversations, and leveraging features like drafts, Insights, and scheduling. Tailoring exclusive content for Threads also keeps your audience interested and loyal.

While some repurposing is fine, aim to create exclusive content for Threads to keep your audience engaged. Use Threads for discussions, polls, and behind-the-scenes updates that wouldn’t fit Instagram’s visual focus.

Insights provide valuable data like impressions, engagement rates, and peak activity times. By analyzing this data, you can identify what works, refine your strategy, and create content that resonates with your audience.

Use a mix of niche hashtags, broad hashtags, and a branded hashtag for maximum reach. Keep it concise—2-4 hashtags per post works best to maintain clarity and avoid looking spammy. Experiment to find the combination that works for your audience.
